A common approach increases swab frequency and expands the site list around any Zone 2 or Zone 1 positive until the facility can demonstrate two or three consecutive clean results.

A Zone 3 or 4 positive should trigger a documented investigation and corrective action, even though it's further from the product - the goal is to resolve the harborage before it moves closer. A Zone 1 or 2 positive is more serious and typically triggers product hold decisions, deep cleaning and re-swabbing, and root-cause investigation into equipment design or sanitation gaps.
